Our History

Mayólica Santa Rosa ceramics originated in the town of Santa Rosa de Lima, Guanajuato, located in the Sierra of Guanajuato, about 13 km (8 miles) from the city of Guanajuato, along the highway toward Dolores Hidalgo.

Its founder, Mr. J. Jesús Aguilera Gtz., together with his sons Arturo and J. Jesús, began working in pottery in 1961. Over the years, Mr. Arturo, along with his young children, continued the craft by producing affordable tea sets, plates, and pots. Seeking to expand beyond these products, in 1986 his son, Juan Mayolo Aguilera, began producing a different style of ceramics: Majolica.

Majolica is a technique that originated in Muslim Spain during the 9th century and spread throughout the Mediterranean via the island of Mallorca, Spain—hence the name “Majolica.” This technique involves applying a glazed coating to a clay piece, which is then decorated, resulting in unique designs driven by the artist’s creativity.

Today, Mayólica Santa Rosa has become an internationally recognized ceramic brand, participating in exhibitions in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and even the Vatican.

Its first direct exports began in 1995, and since then its products have reached different parts of the world, primarily the United States, Europe, and South America.

Mayólica Santa Rosa has preserved its traditional ceramic techniques and processes, where the raw material—clay—is sourced locally, shaped, and hand-painted.

As a result, each piece reflects significant artistic value. In addition to decorative Majolica pieces such as jars, vases, fruit bowls, platters, dinnerware, ornamental items, and functional products like sinks, accessories, and murals, the company continues to innovate. It offers two main finishes—glossy and matte—as well as white ceramic collections, particularly dinnerware and related accessories, along with planters in various sizes.
